Lewis Central Starts 4A District Play Against Rebounding Maroons

After having their 17-game winning streak snapped, one team looks to start a new streak by starting district play against the “new kids on the block”.

And no, we’re not referring to Mark Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre and that bunch.

Council Bluffs Lewis Central makes their inaugural trip in Class 4A district play to one of the storied programs of recent years, the Dowling Catholic Maroons in CenturyLink’s Game of the Week on CISN.

The Maroons fell victim to the same ‘bounce of the ball’ that they benefited from a week earlier, before mounting a comeback, but it wasn’t enough as DCHS dropped a 24-21 game to rival Valley last Friday. Valley’s defense gave Ryan Boyle and the Maroons offense fits as Boyle was picked off twice, one resulting in a Valley touchdown. Dowling’s defensive backfield had no answer for the Tigers’ Dominique Dafney, who hauled in 10 receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Lewis Central are the “new kids on the block”. After years of being in Class 3A, the Titans moved up to 4A this year and have put together a 4-0 start, including a program-making win at Harlan. Quarterback Austin Simmons, a South Dakota recruit, went 14-19 for 279 yards and 5 touchdowns in a 49-15 win over Council Bluffs Jefferson last week. Two of those passing scoring strikes was to his favorite receiver, Conner Hanafan.

Will the Titans make Dowling their second significant win for their program, or will the Maroons get back on track?

Who:  Lewis Central (4-0) at #3 Dowling Catholic (3-1)

Where: Valley Stadium, West Des Moines, Iowa

When: Friday, September 26th, 7:30pm kickoff

The Facts: Dowling lost to Valley, 24-21 last week. Lewis Central defeated CB Jefferson, 49-15. This will be the first ever meeting between both schools.

Things to watch:

  • Can the Titans keep up with Dowling’s no-huddle offense?
  • Will Dowling contain Austin Simmons and his receivers?
  • How motivated are the Maroons after last week’s loss?
  • Can Lewis Central make a first impression in the big school class?
